A duty-free shop may be used by Korean nationals and foreigners going out of the country. They may start purchasing products at a duty-free shop 60 days prior to departure. Unlike electronic commerce, an Internet duty-free shop does not deliver goods to your home.
A customer must receive purchased goods in a bonded area (in an airport or a port). Purchasing duty-free goods for someone else is illegal according to Tariff Act, and both the person who purchases goods for someone else and the person who asks the person to do it risk penalties.
There is no purchase limit applied to foreign passengers departing Korea.
However, only up to $800 is duty-free for both imported and domestic products carried in by a traveler entering the country, regardless of nationality.
For calculation of taxes on goods exceeding duty-free allowance, please check "Simulated Tax Calculation for Goods Carried by a Traveler" on the homepage of Korea Customs Page (www.customs.go.kr).
